SMART Boards

I consider myself very fortunate for this upcoming school year. Our school has invested lots of technology monies to install SMART Boards into most classrooms for this upcoming school year. I am excited to dig in and use the SMART Board to its full potential and to take our current curriculum to the next level.

Earlier this summer I attended a one day workshop that gave a brief overview of the Notebook Software that is used with the SMART Boards. I understand that we may have some training from SMART Technologies this fall prior to the start of school. We are also very fortunate that we have a handful of teachers that have used the SMART Board this past school year. They will be an invaluable resource for us, BUT they will also be the go-to people for the entire staff. One needs to be careful not to put too much on them and drain them before the Christmas Break.

These questions go out to any current users of SMART Board and Notebook Software ~
  • Although training is important, what have you found most useful in utilizing the SMART Board to its full potential in your classroom?
  • Do you have any great Websites to share that fit well with the SMART Board and Notebook Software?
  • What other kinds of creative ways have you used your boards in your classrooms?

As mentioned in my profile, I teach 2nd grade, but if you have ideas for other areas in the school, I will pass one whatever you give me to my colleagues.

One great Blog that I have found while taking a class this summer is www.smartboards.typepad.com/ . Enjoy!

I thank you in advance for any advice you have more me!

Welcome to Blogger, Kim!

I do believe I am going to come right along side you and learn about Smartboard technology.
Our school has one Smartboard for the entire staff, but we're hoping to build on that.

This year my district intends to focus on 21st Century tools for 21st Century learning.I took several workshops this summer on Smartboards in the classroom. Now I need to "stand in line" and put my notes to use!

I'll be checking back to discover
what you are learning.

Hi Kim-
You will LOVE having a SMARTBoard in your classroom. I have had one for almost 2 years and can't imagine teaching without it!
Training is so important, but time to plan/create lessons and get familiar/comfotable with the Board is just as important. In addition to Jim's blog I also very much like-
The WhiteBoard Blog- http://www.whiteboardblog.co.uk/
The 60 Sec Tech- http://a60sectech.podbean.com/
The SMARTBoard Revolution-
http://smartboardrevolution.ning.com/
And here is a link to my other top picks- http://annemarie80.edublogs.org/smart-resources/

Good luck as you begin your SMARTBoard adventure!!

Hi Kim,
I've had my SMART Board for a little over one year. I love it!

A suggestion that I give to others when doing searches is to use the word "interactive" for example "interactive geoboard".

A great thing about the SMART Board is that the students are engaged and get up out of their seats and can interactive with the board. It is amazing how many interactive sites are "out there" that are fantastic.
A great site to start out with is-
http://pppst.com/
It has power points for about every topic you can think of. It also has sites for kids that have interaciive activities.
